We finished the book Talk to Me yesterday (finally). I don’t think it actually teaches social skills the way I was promised it would, but my children still found it very interesting. It’s really a book on basic journalism, and I think it’s great they now have a better understanding of how it all works and how it ought to be done to have integrity. I can recommend it if you have a child interested in being a reporter or biographer or something, but I think it’s skippable for most homeschools.
We’re starting on The Social Skills Guidebook next week and I think this will better meet my actual goals. I’ll keep you posted!
I’ve also been thinking about getting my hands on a copy of The Fine Art of Small Talk. Have you read it before? I’d love to hear a review if you have.

Speaking of books, I have a BIG recommendation from A-Age-Fourteen:
She’s been reading this and loving it so much. I can tell because she keeps stopping to come tell me all about it! She also insisted her Granmama (my mom, who is involved in counseling) buy a copy right away.

This month in 2019:
There is tension when the ideal meets the real, but the struggle after the ideal is always worth the effort, even when we fail. Or maybe especially when we fail.

Podcast episode of the week:

- Sovereign Grace Sermon Podcast: O God of Vengeance, Shine Forth!
- I’m a little biased because this is my pastor at my church, but honestly: WOW. The text was Psalm 94 and it was the best anti-abortion sermon I’ve heard in my life.

This week’s links collection:
- Prehistoric, Dinosaur-Era Shark With Insane Teeth Found Swimming Off Coast of Portugal from Newsweek
- I wouldn’t want to be in the water with it, but this is still pretty awesome!
- Iowa Caucus Results Riddled With Inconsistencies, New Report Finds from Inquisitr
- I know everyone’s saying this, but seriously? These people want to run our healthcare system but they can’t even count votes? If it wasn’t so sad, it’d be funny!
- Wicca and Eclectic Neo-Paganism: Beliefs and Practices, Emerging Worldviews 22 from BreakPoint
- This is a good primer if you have no clue about Wicca. There’s quite the movement going on, so you’ll likely encounter it. Good to have a little background knowledge in advance.
