No new posts around here this week because I had my head down while working on TMP: Too Many Projects. (Plus I had to survive the week!) Lots in the works — stay tuned for:
- First is the NEW winter Mother Culture Habit Tracker. My free tracker has been redesigned and is totally adorable, if I do say so myself. Not that I can take credit for it. Maritza did the redesign and I can’t wait for you to see what she came up with!
- Second is the Afterthoughts 2019 Event Calendar. Like the Habit Tracker above, this will also be a free download. This is for those of you who are trying to decide whether you can take Charlotte Mason Boot Camp and such. It’ll have all the major events (including speaking engagements) on my 2019 calendar so you can make plans and know when to be ready for registration.
- Third are my new Deep Dives! I have had many requests for a sort of “Level 2” for Charlotte Mason Boot Camp alums — if you have taken CMBC, this is for you (and only for you). I’m planning two sessions for 2019. Deep Dives are 2-week intensives run in a way similar to camp, focused on one or two ideas from Charlotte Mason’s philosophy. I am stoked about this and I think you alumni are going to have a lot of fun. For those of you who haven’t done Camp yet, it’s something to look forward to. 🙂 Maybe you should make sure you are on the interest list.

Registration is open for Charlotte Mason West, which takes place February 21-23, 2019. I have been to this conference a couple times and I can’t speak highly enough of it — it’s just wonderful! If you’re on the West Coast, go. You won’t be disappointed.

My children recently informed me that there are SEVEN volumes of Tintin. In case I was wondering. I think this is a Christmas hint? They are not so subtle as they believe.
Last year, I gave one of them the first volume to see what would happen. It felt like a failure when everyone acted like it was no big deal — the recipient among the rest. Inexplicably, they rediscovered it this week and so first the original recipient read it and then lent it to another and then another and suddenly Tintin is a big fad at our house.
I never thought I’d be one to buy comics, but I’ve grown to like the little guy…

I’m not saying fatherlessness isn’t a thing — I would never say that because I think fatherlessness is huge — I just don’t know how we determine ultimately how much influence any one particular commonality has.

- “What if you had to label each one with a purpose?” I think this is a helpful way to think through your day. Not that mothers choose the purpose of a lot of their blocks, but still.
- FBI raids home and offices of L.A. City Councilman Jose Huizar from The LA Times
- Does anyone actually know what is going on with this guy? It’s strange. Reports say he hasn’t been at meetings, and The Eastsider says he was stripped of his committee assignments following the raid. I suppose people know more than they’re saying, but I wonder about stripping people of positions on the basis of accusations rather than evidence.
