There’s a new Scholé Sisters episode out today! This one was tons of fun to record. I love talking to Ashley — she has so many interesting thoughts rolling around in that head of hers! I think you’ll love this one. Click here to listen, or download and subscribe in your favorite podcast player (it’s free!).

If you did the Charlotte Mason in One Hour workshop, please note that the Q&A Session is now live. Don’t miss it! It wasn’t too terribly long and I think the questions asked were quite good ones. Also, this is still available so if you want it you can click here to get it.

I finished reading The Great Gatsby a couple days ago. I hadn’t read it since high school. WOW. I liked the book then, but, even though I had a good teacher, I missed so much of it. It’s a sobering read, to be sure. I read it with my high school senior. Highly recommended! We had some great discussions.

This month in 2017:

We have to ask ourselves: what kind of homeschoolers do we really want to be? I still believe this.

Want to fall in love with Plutarch? Coming up very soon in the Scholé Sisters Sistership Premier is Plutarch for Mommies!

We had a number of requests regarding Plutarch and decided that the best way to learn to love him is to read him together. ♥ So that’s what we’ll be doing. I’m recording audio files for it. If you find him difficult to read, I highly recommend following along in the book while listening. I’m really looking forward to our discussions! It’s going to be fun.

Not a Sistership Premier member, but want to join in the fun? Just click here!

  • Social Justice is ‘Fake Scholarship,’ Oxford Philosopher Says from Intellectual Takeout
    • “Scruton said the ideology might be grounded in truth, but it’s impossible to know because one cannot freely question its premises. Conformity to the orthodoxy takes precedence over the intellectual method…”
    • “It used to be the case at universities you were teaching a recognized subject with a recognized curriculum and you were carrying out research or scholarship in the humanities which was open-minded, guided by the pursuit of truth, and not dismayed particularly if it came to surprising or unorthodox conclusions.”
  • Still Chilling Twenty Years Later: “Death by Government” from The Imaginative Conservative
    • I haven’t read the book, but I have been reading Paul Johnson’s Modern Times lately and it feels like this could be the title for the chapter covering Lenin and Stalin. It’s incredibly disturbing.
    • “I offer this proposition here as the Power Principle: power kills, and absolute power kills absolutely.”
  • Take That, AP Style! Court of Law Rules the Oxford Comma Necessary from The Write Life
    • I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but this article was very satisfying to read.
