First, a book. (Of course.) 1493 for Young People is truly unique. We’ve been using it as our lunch time read aloud. It’s a history book written in a way I’ve never experienced before. The major players aren’t persons; they’re events. But they feel real — almost as if they had wills of their own. The focus is on what Mann calls “The Columbian Exchange.” I’m sure this is a thing, but I’d never heard of it before. We’re looking at pathogens like malaria, trees like the rubber tree, metals like silver, and more. It is intriguing and my children are totally engaged.

This book was recently added to AmblesideOnline Year 8 and I just can’t recommend it enough!

Yes, next comes coffee. A few years back, I started having allergic reactions to my morning coffee, and that made me sad. I thought I was going to have to give it up and it was a morning ritual I didn’t want to part with — especially in the winter when I’m cold! A friend mentioned to me that possibly I’d developed an allergy to something in coffee, rather than coffee itself. I started experimenting with brands, and found one that worked perfectly for me. That went fine … until the store that made it went out of business! I bought up every last package in the shop, but eventually I ran out.

And then I met Bulletproof Coffee. I don’t react to this coffee at all, plus it’s some of the best tasting coffee I’ve had. I pretty much love it!

My binder rack is perfectly amazing. It sounds dumb, but I dreaded Circle Time because of the disarray in my cabinet. I would get organized each year and also midyear, but nothing kept it that way very well because my binders — and we have loads — were always falling over. I tried book ends, but the more binders we collected, the less those helped.

Enter my binder rack. This rack holds my binders upright! It is a tiny miracle that makes me happy and keeps me organized.

Lindsey Stirling’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy rendition is mind blowing. I love it. Here. You listen, too:

(I forgive her for looking like Jadis.)

I really want her whole album, but for now Pandora will have to do.
